Focus on Technology. Thermography.

Recent improvements in thermal imaging technology has enabled unrivaled access to this technology for use in the damp industry. Up to now the take up has been rather slow due mainly to the cost of the devices required to take advantage of it. Dovedale Dampcure Services Ltd sees making use of advantageous technology as being paramount in demystifying the industry and making our knowledge easily understandable to the lay person.

At Dovedale, we utilise the system provided by FLIR. Thermal imagery allows one to see the temperatures of things. This is crucial information in diagnosing condensation dampness for example. In a typical home, discerning the difference between capillary dampness and condensation dampness can be quite difficult without this type of equipment. Cold surfaces in humid environments quickly become what we term a ‘dew point’ that is it will be an attractive surface for the airborne water vapour [humidity] to settle onto in order for it to condense back to the liquid state. The thermal imaging cameras can detect these colder areas quickly. Moreover, this method can highlight areas of the home which are likely to be subject to the problems associated with condensation dampness such as black mould.
